Why I Can't Stand ESPN

I'll admit it, I check out ESPN's every day for the latest sports news, but I'm starting to wonder why I do that.  Sure, I have an insider account which allows to me access some neat content.  But otherwise, there really isn't anything special about ESPN's own site, or the channel itself.  I can get all the sports news I need from Yahoo Sports, CBS Sports, NFL.com, and MLB.com.  And the NFL network is vastly superior to ESPN (TNF> MNF).  NFL Network employs football legends Kurt Warner, Michael Irving, Marshall Faulk, and Deion Sanders, just to name a few.  Sure, ESPN has some football greats like Mike Ditka and Steve Young, but they also employ HORRIBLE players like Trent Dilfer and Matt Millen.  I personally prefer NFL Network because those guys try to have fun, know what they're talking about, and they don't try to have politically correct conversations like ESPN does.  NFL network is fun to watch, ESPN is just plain boring.

My main problem with ESPN is this article right here. In this trash article, the author laments at how Prince Fielder is being paid millions of dollars while the city of Detroit is still suffering.  Newsflash to ESPN, the City of Detroit is suffering because of its liberal policies that you and others always advocate.  ESPN's political biases can be seen elsewhere, such as its firing of Hank Williams Jr. over his non-existent comparison between Obama and Hitler.  ESPN, however, did not fire Jemele Hill for comparing Joe Calipari to Charles MansonThey also forced Rush Limbaugh to resign from his position over comments over the Donovan McNabb, who does suck by the way.  While ESPN's political biases are obvious, so is its bias against sports teams.  They always cover the big named teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Patriots, and Lakers, but never any other "smaller" teams like the Bengals or Browns.  It also exhibits bias in its rather non-existent coverage of MMA.  In fact, I remember ESPN comparing Michael Vick's dog fighting scandal to the UFC!  It's commentators are also incredibly biased, from Bill Simmons to former ESPN employee Keith Olbermann.  Yeah, I don't think I have to say anymore about Keith Olbermann.  It's Obama loving, big team loving is obvious, and it alienates me and many others from the network.

What does ESPN have that its competition have?  Well, the always controversial Skip Bayless, the attractive Erin Andrews, and oh uhm well, Bill Simmons (does anybody care about him?).  ESPN also features 24/7 Tim Tebow coverage and 24/7 non-coverage of MMA, along with 24/7 dull coverage of day's biggest sports news stories.   Yeah, I won't be visiting ESPN's site for a while.  Comment why you hate ESPN below.

GIANTS-PATRIOTS SUPER BOWL REMATCH!!!

This is going to be EPIC!!!!  Absolutely cannot wait for this game!! For right now, I'm predicting that the Giants will narrowly beat the Patriots; but Tom Brady might become the third QB in history to win 4 Super Bowls, along with Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw, if he continues to play like he has been playing.  Who do you guys have to win?

Tim Tebow or Michael Vick?

Both men are two of the most polarizing figures in sports, for different reasons.  One prays a lot while the other kills his dogs.  Both men are quarterbacks in the NFL and both men have received extensive media coverage in previous coverage.    So, WHO DO YOU LIKE BETTER:

Michael Vick

Vick was recently released out of a jail and almost immediately found a job in the NFL.  In 2010, he a had a remarkable comeback season, leading the Philidelphia Eagles to the playoffs.  According to FORBES, Vick is the most disliked player in the NFL, because he is complicit in dog fighting.  DO YOU LIKE MICHAEL VICK? NFL Game-Day Finale: CALLED IT

YES I CALLED IT!!! Giants raped the Packers and the Ravens defeated the Texans.  Giants played well while the Packers didn't.  This has to be one of the worst playoff performances I have seen from such a "good" team.  I mean this game may have confirmed that Skip Bayless wasn't full of shit after all!  Both of the Packers touchdowns should have never happened thanks to utterly terrible calls by the refs.  First, the refs completely blew a forced fumble call and then they called a roughing the passer call out of nowhere on 3rd down.  Both of these calls extended the Packers drives which shouldn't have ended, and Green Bay took advantage and scored.  But still, terrible performance by the defending Super Bowl champions.  They should change the Discount Double Check to the Discount Double Drops, since GB receivers dropped the ball A LOT.  Jermichael Finley is overrated since he constantly drops easy catches.  Giants are going to win the Super Bowl.  THERE I SAID IT!!!

NFL Game-Day Preview

Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens 1:00 P.M. ET CBS

Ray Rice should destroy the Texans today

 Look for Ray Rice to run over the Texans all day, and I mean run over them.  While the Texans do have one of the best running backs in the league in Arian Foster, I don't think he or T.J. Yates will be able to overcome the Raven's stingy defense.  Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, and, oh yeah, that Ray Lewis guy.  Sure, T.J. Yates can now throw the ball to Andre Johnson, but the Ravens can just double team him, essentially eliminating the passing threat.  The Texans, of course, also have a great defense, but that won't stop Ray Rice.  While Joe Flacco may not be the best QB in the league, he certainly has proved himself against great teams like Shitsburgh Steelers and against the Texans earlier this season.  The Ravens are 8-0 at home and they have beat every playoff team they have played this season.  That said, I don't think Texans will be to upset the  Ravens in this game.     Final Score: BAL 21 HOU 14.


New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers 4:30 P.M. ET FOX

Victor Cruz is a beast!

Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Hakeem Nicks; that my friends is a winning combination!  Eli Manning has been having one of the best years in his career and he looks like he is going to take his team to the Super Bowl AGAIN!  This time around, Eli doesn't have receivers who shoot themselves in the league, instead he has two of the best wideouts in the league in Nicks and Cruz.  Both men present huge downfield threats for the Giants and they should pick apart the weak Packers secondary.  Packers defense has been terrible this season, and I mean terrible. I think the Giants should easily run over the Packers defense today, scoring touchdowns left and right.  Defensively for the Gaints, Three Word: Jason Pierre Paul.  Jason Pierre Paul might get 4 sacks today and should be a pest to Aaron Rodgers all day.  Giants defense has been much better as of a late, considering they held Atlanta's team to just two points, and those two points came off of a safety.  The Giants defense should continue to dominate and I believe Aaron Rodgers is going to have a tough day.  The game is obviously going to be close and will likely come down to the wire, but I believe the Giants will maintain control of the ball and will keep Aaron Rodgers off of the field as much as they can.  Look for a Giants upset today!    Final Score: Giants 28 Packers 24.

Tom Brady And Bill Belichick Give A Major 'FUCK YOU' To Denver

Wow.

The Patriots not only completely ANNIHILATED the fluky Denver Broncos, they proceeded to add insult to injury...twice.

Bill Belichick isn't exactly known for being sportsmanlike to his opponents, especially after beating them senseless, but this is a whole different level of hilariousness.

Near the end of the game, Tom Brady did something completely unexpected and punted the ball away- ON THIRD DOWN. Having your quarterback kick a punt is one thing, but shoving the fact that you're beating your opponent by so much that you can just give the ball away is harsh, but funny.

But, as if that wasn't enough, after Denver instigated a fight (I guess they don't like being made fools on TV), accumulating 2 pretty large penalties, Belichick DECLINES those penalties, for no reason other than humiliation- DAMN!

N.O. Saints @ S.F. 49ers:
Great Fucking Game!  Sure the first three and half quarters were boring, but the last few minutes of the game were simply amazing.  I swore the game was over when Alex Smith ran the ball in for 20+ yard touchdown, put the 49ers up by five points with about 2:20 left in clock.  But Drew Brees quickly came back with a huge 66 yard touchdown strike to Jimmy Graham, putting the Saints ahead by 2 points.  At that point, I was literally saying NOOOOOO and SHITTTTT, knowing that is was unlikely the 49ers could come back to win.  But, they did.  Vernon Davis made The Catch III, which won the game for the 49ers and capped an exciting finish to  a great game.  

Broncos @ Patriots:

The AntiChrist Tom Brady destroyed the Broncos and Tebow unfortunately couldn't do anything offensively.  Stopped watching the game around the second quarter, so I have no idea what happened in the second half.  Oh the Tebow Haters are out in force tonight, because he is such a bad person because he's religious (sarcasm)

Why The Reds Win The NL Central In 2012

As anybody who actively follows baseball should know, The Reds' offense knows how to score runs. Their production cut back a slight bit from 2010 last year, but they still managed to score the second most runs in the National League, behind the St. Louis Cardinals. A year before, they were first. If I had to guess the reasoning behind our offensive slowdown, I'd offer that it was losing Rolen 1/3rd of the way through the season, opening up third base to a slew of rookies. Next year, Rolen should be back, and I believe he has enough gas in the tank for at least one more solid year, assuming he stays healthy. The Reds' main problem in 2011 was pitching, starting pitching to be exact. While Bronson Arroyo had never been an amazing pitcher, his stats last year were an outlier, due to his stint with mono and back problems. Expect him to post a decent ERA next year, 3.80-4. The Reds also emptied the farm for starter Mat Latos. Many people seem to think that he will fail in GABP, but those people haven't taken the time to look at the stats. Here are some points:

1. Latos is a strikeout pitcher, with a higher K/9 rate than either Roy Halladay or Clayton Kershaw. Regardless of where he pitches, strikeouts still work the same.
2. Latos had a home ERA of around 3.10 and a road ERA of around 3.50. Taking into consideration that all pitchers pitch slightly worse on the road than at home, this puts him at about a 3.30, which is a solid ERA, even outside the walls of PETCO. Calling him a product of PETCO makes no sense, really.

The Reds also hope that Mike Leake can continue his upward trend. Improving in ERA, innings pitched, wins, WHIP, runs scored, etc., there is no reason to suspect that he won't. Aroldis Chapman has also been working as a starter over the offseason. We've seen how lights out he can be (aside from a 10 game stretch in 2011), he should continue this as he makes the jump from reliever to starter.

The Reds' Rotation now stands at this:

Cueto
Latos
Leake
Chapman
Arroyo

Which is a pretty good rotation, solid all around.

Summary: The Reds can score runs, we know that's true. The problem, until now, was pitching. Walt Jocketty solved this problem, giving the Reds a solid rotation, and, arguably, the best bullpen in the NL Central (adding the talented Sean Marshall and Ryan Madson, and bringing Homer Bailey to the back end of the rotation.)

The Cardinals also have lost their best player in Albert Pujols. Adding Carlos Beltran was a smart move for them, but his 2011 success was a rarity, given his health. In fact, before 2011, he hadn't played in 100 games since 2008. The NL Central is an all around better division than the NL West as well, so Beltran's success should be minimal. Alongside Pujols, they also lost their talented pitching coach and manager.

The Brewers patched up their defense, replacing Betancourt at SS and Casey Mcgeehe at third. However, losing Prince and Braun (50 games) is going to be a blow to them. However, their pitching is good enough that they'll stay competitive to an extent, but lose in close games, where their diminished offense won't be there to support them.


Look at the Reds compared to both the Brewers and the Cardinals, player by player.

There is no comparison, really. The Reds were really unlucky in 2011, with injuries and mediocre pitching, but will bounce back next year, due to an improved (500x) bullpen and rotation.

2012 MLB Predictions

At this point in the offseason, it is safe to say that we have a pretty good picture of who will be playing where come spring. A few big signings are still waiting to happen, however, that could shake things up quite a bit, such as free agents Prince Fielder and Roy Oswalt. Still, by January, most of the big impact signings are done. I think it's safe to take a look at the MLB as of now and draw conclusions for the upcoming year. This list will be updated as transactions and signings occur, of course.

American League

East: New York Yankees

Key Additions this offseason: Swapping Jesus Montero for much needed pitching support in Michael Pineada. Signing an extension with ace CC Sabathia was a big move. Keeping a low profile in term of offensive moves, utilizing the old phrase- if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Central: Detroit Tigers

Key Additions this offseason: The Tigers also have laid fairly low this offseason. Their biggest signing was of Octavio Dotel.

The Tigers have one of the best pitchers in baseball, and a potent lineup waiting for a chance to shine. They should get that chance in 2012.

West: Los Angeles Angels

Key Additions this offseason: The Angels made, arguably, the biggest splash this offseason, signing both Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson.

The Angels' rotation, which was already good, now stands at one of the top 3 starting rotations in baseball. Their lineup still isn't perfect, but pretty darn good, and their pitching, aided by Albert Pujols, should allow them to take the division.

National League

East: Philadelphia Phillies

Key Additions this offseason: Signing the talented Jonathon Papelbon to a (ridiculous) 5 year deal, signing Dontrelle Willis as a left handed specialist.

While the Marlins and Nationals are both on the rise, it will still be another year at least before The Phillies have enough competition to be worried.

Central: Cincinnati Reds

Key Additions this offseason: Signing closer Ryan Madson for a bargain, trading the farm for the talented Mat Latos, trading for Sean Marshall, and moving Aroldis Chapman to the bullpen.

Of all the teams on this list, this may be the most controversial. But, The Cardinals and Brewers are both losing key players, while The Reds are only improving their already formidable team. 2011 was a bit of a backtrack, due to some unfortunate injuries, but 2012 should be better- with Cueto, Latos, and Leake making up a formidable staff. If Aroldis Chapman can adapt well to the starter role, he can be lights out (a 93 mph slider, need I say more?) I think The Reds will surprise some people this year by winning the division, and possibly more.

West: San Francisco Giants

Key Additions thus offseason: Added some more pitching talent, and reached a deal with catcher Eli Whiteside.
